| We had a good turnout with many library staff and supporters. Council Members, Jimmy Van Bramer, head of the Libraries Committee, Peter Koo, Karen Koslowitz, Elizabeth Crowley, Leroy Comrie, Vincent Gentile, Local 1321 President John Hyslop, and Queens Library Director Tom Galante were among the speakers in this event. |

Board walk and rally for Books, Jobs and Libraries Rockaway Peninsula

| The Rockaway libraries (Seaside, Peninsula, Arverne, Broad Channel, Far Rockaway, and the Teen Library) had a boardwalk rally on Saturday, May 21, 2011. At 11:00 a.m., two groups meet at 116th Street and the Boardwalk, and at 60th Street and the Boardwalk. Both groups walked to Peninsula. The rally began at 12:30 p.m. at the Peninsula Library. Council Members James Sanders and Eric Ulrich and other neighborhood activists spoke about the importance of libraries and promised to save them. |
